Uganda’s Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has celebrated the country’s 63rd Independence Anniversary with an Investment Expo showcasing Uganda as a land of opportunity, beauty, and partnership.

Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo, who also serves as Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, said that from culture to commerce, Uganda’s presence in Addis Ababa reaffirms its commitment to building bridges of opportunity across Africa.

Otengo noted that Uganda has made a significant impact in championing peace, security, and stability — not only within its borders but also across other African nations.

She said Uganda is pursuing its socio-economic transformation through what is termed as ATMs — Agriculture, Tourism, Mineral Development, and Manufacturing, as well as Science, Technology, and Innovation.

She added that it has created a very conducive environment for investment, and that the country is gifted by nature with good weather, fertile soils, and warm, welcoming people.

“Today, Uganda stands at a turning point in its socio-economic transformation. Our national posture is changing quietly, steadily, and confidently,” she said.

“Instead of pursuing charity, we are pursuing strategic partnerships— not built on dependency, but on mutual benefit and dignity.”

She further noted that Uganda has transformed from a country of scarcity into one that produces almost all essential commodities needed domestically, while also exporting to the region and beyond.

The 63rd Anniversary was marked by a vibrant cultural performance by the Crane Performers from Uganda, attended by a high-profile delegation from Uganda and staff from the Ugandan Embassy in Addis Ababa.

The performance showcased Uganda’s rich cultural heritage and highlighted the country’s potential in tourism, partnership, and investment.

Idah Wadda, Manager of Legal and Corporate Affairs at the Uganda Tourism Board, inspired guests with presentations on Uganda’s unmatched tourism potential — from gorilla trekking and adventure tourism to rich cultural experiences — positioning the Pearl of Africa as the continent’s must-visit destination.

“Every visitor to Uganda leaves with a story worth telling,” said Wadda.

Peter Muramira, Deputy Director for Business Development at the Uganda Investment Authority, delivered a compelling presentation on the country’s vast investment landscape, highlighting opportunities in agro-industrialization, energy, manufacturing, and ICT.

“Uganda is open for business and partnership,” Muramira emphasized.
