KAMPALA-The State Minister for Northern Uganda, Akello Beatrice Akori, has received a delegation of leaders from the Acholi Sub-region who presented a formal petition to Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, calling for urgent government intervention to address the worsening food crisis affecting the region.
The delegation, led by Pader District LC5 Chairperson Alfred Akena on behalf of all LC5 Chairpersons in Acholi, submitted a report detailing the devastating effects of the prolonged drought, which has destroyed crops, severely affected livelihoods and heightened food insecurity across the sub-region.
The petition highlights the growing humanitarian concern, with reports of increasing hunger and loss of lives, while urging the Government to provide immediate food relief and develop long-term interventions to strengthen climate resilience and food security in Northern Uganda.
Akori reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to standing with the people during this difficult period and pledged to continue engaging the relevant authorities to ensure timely support reaches the affected communities.
She commended the Acholi LC5 Chairpersons for presenting a well-documented petition, describing it as an important step in strengthening evidence-based advocacy for both emergency relief and sustainable solutions to safeguard the future of the region.
