Several Heads of State Arrive in Uganda for Museveni’s Inauguration

Several Heads of State from across Africa and beyond have arrived in Uganda ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni, scheduled for May 12 at Kololo Ceremonial Ground in Kampala. The ceremony marks President Museveni’s seventh term in office.

Among the dignitaries who have arrived are Azouz Nasri of Algeria; Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan, Gen. (Rtd) Dr. Constantino Guveya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga, Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, together with his spouse Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, Brahim Ghali, President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Taye Atske Selassie, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Félix Tshisekedi of Democratic Republic of Congo and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria among others.

Also attending are Faure Gnassingbé Essozimna of Togo and Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua, Prime Minister of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, alongside a delegation from the United States led by Nicholas Checker, Senior Bureau Official for African Affairs.

According to State House Uganda, the presence of the international delegations reflects growing partnerships anchored in diplomacy, trade, energy, mining, and Africa’s shared commitment to peace, sovereignty, and continental cooperation.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, President Mohamud was received by Uganda’s Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, Somalia’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Fardowsa Mohamed Qanyare, and Uganda’s Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Sam Tulya-Muhika.

Senior security officials present included Lt. Gen. Charles Otema Awany, Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces Reserve Force; Assistant Inspector General of Police David Wasswa Ssengendo; and Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons Samuel Akena.

President Mohamud is among several regional leaders to attend the inauguration ceremony, which is anticipated to attract numerous Heads of State, government officials, and international delegations from across Africa and beyond.
