Two secondary schools and a primary school in Alebtong District grappling with inadequate infrastructure have received iron sheets from the Office of the PrimeMinister to help construct classroom blocks and ease the pressure on limited learning space.

The beneficiaries—Omoro and Amugu Secondary Schools, including Alanyi Primary—shared 630 iron sheets from the consignment delivered by the Denis Hamson Obua. Alebtong Yahawe Pentecostal Church also benefited from the donation.

School administrators welcomed the support, saying it will help address the acute shortage of classrooms and dormitory facilities they are currently facing.

The Deputy Headteacher of Omoro Secondary School, Godfrey Ameto, said the institution is struggling with insufficient infrastructure, particularly classrooms and dormitories, which is negatively affecting learning. The school currently has an enrollment of more than 500 students.

“Due to our improved performance, parents have entrusted us with many learners. As I speak now, the population is overwhelming and we have a shortfall of infrastructure. With this donation we are going to move a step forward,” Ameto said.

He added that the shortage of dormitory space has forced the school to rent a nearby home to accommodate Senior One students.

“Classrooms are not enough for the learners. We are also challenged by the shortage of dormitories, which prompted us to rent a nearby home for Senior One students,” he explained.

At Amugu Secondary School, Deputy Headteacher Alexis Okello expressed gratitude to the government, noting that since the government took over the school’s administration in 2015, it had not received any support until now.

“We have been pleading and requesting our Member of Parliament, and finally God has heard our prayers and we received 150 iron sheets,” Okello said.

He explained that the school has only six classrooms serving a population of over 420 students, forcing some classes that should be streamed into separate groups to share the same room.

The Headteacher of Alanyi Primary School, Julius Opio, said the donation came at the right time, revealing that one classroom block lost its roof during a heavy windstorm five years ago.

“We shall use the iron sheets to roof one of the classrooms that was blown off by strong winds,” Opio said.

While handing over the items, Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua cautioned the beneficiaries against diverting the iron sheets and stressed that they must be used strictly for their intended purpose.

He explained that the consignment followed requests from the institutions and revealed that the Office of the Prime Minister has so far donated 1,800 iron sheets to support schools and places of worship across Ajuri County.
