The Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua, has urged Ugandans to approach the forthcoming general elections with peace, love, and unity, emphasizing the need for a calm and orderly electoral process.

While concluding his campaign on January 11, 2026, at Okut Primary School in Ajuri County, Alebtong District, Obua encouraged citizens to exercise their democratic rights by voting peacefully for their preferred presidential and parliamentary candidates.

“I hope all people will exercise their right to vote in a peaceful environment because Uganda is bigger than all of us. However, I want to emphasize that you vote for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate,” Obua said.

He expressed confidence that the NRM presidential candidate, President Yoweri Museveni, will secure a landslide victory in the January 15 general election, citing the massive support received during nationwide campaign tours.

Obua added that NRM flag bearers at parliamentary, county, constituency, and local council levels are also poised for victory due to the tangible achievements delivered by the NRM government across the country.

Ugandans will head to the polls on January 15, 2026, to elect both the President and Members of Parliament. Eight presidential candidates are contesting in the election, including incumbent President Yoweri Museveni (NRM), Robert Kyagulanyi (National Unity Platform), Joseph Mabirizi (Conservative Party), Nathan Nandala Mafabi (Forum for Democratic Change), and Mugisha Gregory Mutu Oyera (Alliance for National Transformation). Others are Munyangwa Mubarak Sserunga (Common Man’s Party) and Bulira Frank Kabinga (Revolutionary People’s Party).

Obua, who also serves as the NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, said President Museveni has delivered what he described as the “holy trinity” of governance: sustainable peace, national development, and wealth creation initiatives.

“The people are exceedingly happy, and we hope President Museveni will win in Ajuri, Alebtong, Lango sub-region, Northern Uganda, and across the country with a landslide victory,” Obua said.

In Ajuri County, Obua is facing competition from four candidates: Emmanuel Ongom Okwel (Forum for Democratic Change), Steven Omara Anyeko (Independent), Jasper Mollo (Independent), and Fred Jalameso (Uganda People’s Congress).

He called on voters to turn up in large numbers on polling day and vote according to their choices, while appealing to NRM supporters to rally behind President Museveni.

Obua further noted that under President Museveni’s leadership, the NRM has delivered what he termed the “lowest common denominator” of stability in Uganda, contrasting it with the political instability and crises experienced under previous regimes.

Obua pledged to deliver hand hoes, lobby for the upgrade of Amugu Health Centre III to Health Centre IV, improve infrastructure in both primary and secondary schools, and address poor performance if given another opportunity.

He also added that through the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, the Special Grant for Persons with Disabilities, and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme, many livelihoods in Alebtong District have improved—one of the reasons people should vote for President Museveni.

Bernard Angol, a resident of Abako Sub-county, lauded the government for introducing wealth creation initiatives, especially the Parish Development Model, which has had a positive impact on reducing household poverty.

He added that the government should consider increasing funding per parish to Shs300 million, noting that the current Shs100 million, though tested, is not sufficient.

Patrick Okello, a resident of Adwir Sub-county, said they are grateful to the government for constructing four seed secondary schools in Ajuri County, which has reduced the dropout rate and enabled more children to access secondary education.
