Agago contest: Who is Anek Nancy Obita?

Anek Nancy Obita is an independent candidate contesting for the Agago District Woman Member of Parliament seat 2026.

She is a seasoned media professional and editor with over 20 years of experience spanning mainstream media, government institutions, and non-governmental organizations.

Anek has Master in Public Health Leadership, Uganda Christian University, Mukono, Bachelor of Arts (Social science), Makerere University, Kampala, Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication, UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Kampala, Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), PMM Girls School, Jinja and Uganda Certificate of Education, Sacred Heart School, Gulu.

Hon. Nancy Obita is an accomplished and innovative journalist/editor and an articulate communicator with a strong background in newspaper management, content development, audience engagement and strategic planning and leadership.

She is known for being result-oriented and self-motivated, having been twice awarded for outstanding performance within her first two years of employment in past roles.

Nancy Obita strongly believes in creating impact through strategic management and teamwork.

Notably, she led a team at the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) to innovate strategies that boosted revenue and improved operations, cleared production backlogs, improved print quality, and reduced delivery times, resulting in better client satisfaction.

She also emphasized time management and efficiency, consistently delivering tasks within set deadlines.

Her key professional contributions include editing the Uganda Gazette, covering Instruments, Bills, Laws, Ordinances, and Public Legal Notices, initiating an annual work plan for regional newspapers, later adopted as a Strategic Business Work Plan across Vision Group platforms.

Others were planning, generating, and editing The Printers, UPPC’s first souvenir magazine, published to mark 120 years of UPPC, achieving 63% growth in advertising and sales for Rupiny Newspaper (2008–2010), making it Vision Group’s fastest-growing regional newspaper at the time.

Drawing from her extensive experience in communication, governance-related publishing, and institutional leadership, Nancy Anek Obita seeks to translate her professional expertise intoeffective political leadership as Woman Member of Parliament for Agago District.
