President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has congratulated his grandson, Ruhamya Kainerugaba and Andrew Bakira Ruyondo following their commissioning from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom and on joining the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
In a message addressed to Ugandans, particularly the younger generation whom he referred to as the Bazzukulu, President Museveni expressed gratitude to God for protecting Uganda and enabling the country to confront and overcome its numerous challenges.
He also thanked God for blessing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and its predecessors over the past six decades, describing the political movement’s long journey as one marked by divine guidance and perseverance.
“God has blessed me with one of my grandchildren, Ruhamya, joining my big family of UPDF,” Museveni said, while congratulating Ruhamya and his fellow graduate, Bakyira, on completing their military training at Sandhurst.
The President used the occasion to encourage young Ugandans to consider military service, saying that service in the army can provide a strong foundation for personal development, discipline and national service.
“Young Ugandans, Army service gives you good foundation,” he said.
Museveni also extended his congratulations to the parents of the two young officers, acknowledging their role in supporting their children’s journey into military service.
The graduation from Sandhurst represents a significant milestone for both Ruhamya and Bakyira, placing them among a new generation of Ugandan military officers receiving training at one of the world’s most renowned military academies.
For President Museveni, Ruhamya’s commissioning also carries a personal dimension, as his grandson becomes part of what he described as his “big family of UPDF.”
The President’s message combined a personal celebration of his grandson’s achievement with a broader reflection on faith, Uganda’s history, the NRM’s journey and the role of young Ugandans in serving their country.
