Outgoing Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has officially handed over the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development to his successor, Henry Musasizi, urging the new leadership to safeguard Uganda’s economic progress and work closely with the ministry’s technical team to sustain growth.
The handover ceremony, held on Friday at the ministry headquarters in Kampala, marked the formal transition of leadership following recent Cabinet appointments. Musasizi assumes office at a time when government is pursuing ambitious economic transformation and development targets.
In his farewell remarks, Kasaija reflected on his years of service at the ministry, describing the experience as rewarding and emphasizing the importance of continuity in economic management.
“I have enjoyed working at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development,” Kasaija said. “The economy is growing, and nobody or anything should be allowed to disrupt this steady growth.”
He urged the incoming political leadership to maintain a strong working relationship with the ministry’s technical staff, noting that teamwork between policymakers and technocrats remains critical to delivering results.
Musasizi paid tribute to Kasaija’s stewardship, crediting him with laying a firm foundation that has enabled the ministry to effectively implement government programmes and achieve key development objectives.
