The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Alebtong District, Mathias Lutwama, has declared a renewed crackdown on corruption in the district public service, warning civil servants against diversion of government funds and manipulation of accountability processes.
Lutwama issued the warning on Thursday while presiding over the handover ceremony between outgoing Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Franco Olaboro, and the incoming substantive CAO, Elly Piwang.
Speaking before district officials and civil servants, Lutwama said the district leadership would intensify monitoring and supervision of government programmes to ensure accountability and value for money.
“Alebtong has now entered a season of no sleep and no corruption,” Lutwama warned, adding that public servants implicated in misuse of public resources would face disciplinary and legal action.
The Deputy RDC cited diversion of public funds for personal gain, collusion in contracts leading to substandard road works, and falsification of accountability records as some of the major challenges undermining service delivery in the district.
He urged all civil servants to embrace transparency and professionalism in the execution of their duties.
During the ceremony, Lutwama also paid tribute to the outgoing CAO, Franco Olaboro, for what he described as dedicated and efficient service to the district.
He credited Olaboro for ensuring timely implementation of district policies and improving welfare for public workers through the construction of houses for teachers, nurses and midwives in schools and health facilities.
Lutwama further applauded the outgoing CAO for ensuring prompt payment of salaries, gratuity and pensions to beneficiaries.
He officially welcomed Elly Piwang as the new substantive CAO of Alebtong and described him as a capable administrator with expertise in institutional capacity building and effective administration.
The Deputy RDC appealed to heads of departments, town clerks, senior assistant secretaries and other district staff to cooperate fully with the new CAO in order to strengthen service delivery.
Lutwama reminded civil servants that the government’s long-term vision under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) is centered on full monetisation of the economy through efficient public administration and effective implementation of development programmes.
The handover ceremony attracted district leaders, technical staff and local government officials, marking a new administrative transition in Alebtong District.
