Lira University has dismissed as false and malicious claims circulating on social media that the Law Development Centre (LDC) is closing its Lira campus located at the university.
“It has come to the attention of the management of Lira University that a false and malicious rumor is circulating on several social media platforms claiming that the LDC Lira Campus is closing its tenancy, and that the university has refused to extend their tenancy agreement or ordered them to leave,” said Patrick Opio, Senior Communications Officer.
Opio emphasized that the claims are not true, and the university strongly refutes what it described as unfounded allegations intended to cause unnecessary panic and harm its reputation.
“As a responsible institution, we wish to clarify that Lira University offered five acres of free land to LDC five years ago, although it has not yet been developed. In addition, the university rented out part of its buildings to LDC for lectures and office space under a tenancy agreement that expired in March 2026,” he explained.
He further revealed that LDC management requested a three-month extension of the tenancy agreement, from April 1 to June 30, 2026, which the university granted. The agreement is currently in effect.
“We therefore urge the public, parents, guardians, staff, and students to disregard these dangerous falsehoods. LDC has not communicated any intention to leave or close the Lira campus,” Opio added.
He also called on those spreading the misinformation—whether knowingly or unknowingly—to stop immediately.
