The speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has mourned Mzee Nathan Okori, father of the late former speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanya.
In her X message on Monday 30, March, after joining the family at Christ Church in Gulu, she described the Late as a remarkable individual who raised his children with strong principles and placed great importance on education.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all who assembled to honour and celebrate the life of our esteemed father, Mzee Nathan Okori, who was called home by God at the age of 97. Like many of you, I became acquainted with Mzee Okori through our late brother, leader, and mentor, Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah. The impression I have of him is shaped by the stories his son shared and the occasions on which I encountered him.
Mzee Nathan was indeed a remarkable individual. He raised his children with strong principles and placed great importance on education.
As the father of Jacob Oulanyah, there is little additional to be said, as his achievements eloquently attest to his legacy as a parent.
I am profoundly grateful to Mzee for bestowing upon us such a distinguished leader—a brilliant lawyer, legislator, and one of the most outstanding leaders our nation has ever known. This stands as a testament to his character and his dedication as a father.
Following the passing of my brother Jacob, and together with many of his friends and loved ones, we pledged to support his family—his father, his children, and all who cared for him. I am thankful that we upheld this promise, doing everything within our power to ensure Mzee’s comfort and dignity, and that he was afforded a respectful farewell.
My deepest condolences are extended to his children, grandchildren, and all his loved ones. I wish to assure Mzee’s family of my enduring support, as long as divine providence allows.
Furthermore, I urge Andrew Ojok, all his siblings, and the extended Okori family to preserve the legacy of the two distinguished men who preceded them and uphold their names through their words and actions.
