Moses Anguyo, a prison warder captured by joint security team at Aru Town in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been transferred to Kiboga police station in Kiboga district to face murder charge.
The commissioner General of Prisons, Johnson Byabasaija confirmed in a press statement on Sunday 29th March.
“The commissioner General of Prisons congratulates the joint security operation team that apprehended the murder suspect warder, Moses Aguyo in Aru Town in DR Congo,” he said in a statement by Prison spokesperson, Frank Beine.
“He is currently being held at Kiboga central police station and waiting to be produced in court to answer for his crime,” he added.
On 23rd February Anguyo went amok and opened fire killing Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, the Deputy Officer in Charge Kiboga Prison; Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, the third in command; and Ayebare Sarah, spouse to the Officer in Charge. and her toddler, Salson Nuwagaba, who was reportedly struck by a stray bullet. Authorities had earlier announced a Shs10 million bounty for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Preliminary reports indicate the shooting may have followed a dispute after the warder was cautioned for using WhatsApp while on duty, in breach of prison regulations, and investigators have also cited possible frustration linked to career progression as part of the motive.
