Alebtong DRDC Lutwama guides  women on access to GROW Funds

The deputy resident district commissioner of Alebtong, Mathias Lutwama has encouraged women in the district to access Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises funds to boost their businesses.

He advised them to be mindful of the executive discretion by President Yoweri Museveni to grant credit financing to women entrepreneurs and that  Alebtong will officially be commencing the implementation process of the GROW Project on 7th March..

“For transparency in the execution of this project in Alebtong, I wish to guide as follows: Every woman aged 18 years and above with a registered business—whether small, medium, or large scale—is eligible to access the loan,” he said.

He added that the Bank Account requirement is compulsory for every applicant, as all funds will be deposited directly onto individual bank accounts.

Government officials, together with bank officials, will conduct on-site assessments of businesses to be funded. They will also provide advisory support and determine the appropriate loan amount for each beneficiary,” he told the women at the district headquarters on Thursday.

He added: “Any woman in Alebtong with a viable but unregistered business is permitted to first obtain a recommendation letter from her LC1 Chairperson. Thereafter, the business will be field-assessed by government and bank officials for approval.”

The GROW project is a US$217 million (approximately Sh800 billion) initiative funded by the World Bank, with the goal of supporting and facilitating access to finance for women entrepreneurs to transition from micro enterprises to small and medium enterprises.

The project provides not only funding but also access to vital training in financial literacy, business management, and job placement services.

The project launhced in 2023 is targeting to benefit 280,000 women entrepreneurs and employees (including 42,000 refugees and 14,000 host community members).

A total of 1.6 Million people will benefit indirect, including family members, communities, suppliers, service providers, and distributers of women enterprises products.

Lutwama said as guided by the Central Government, loan amounts will range from UGX 2 million to UGX 200 million, depending on the productivity and scale of the business.

He revealed that following the completion of functional training for all GROW Project applicants totaling to 500 women disbursement of funds to their respective bank accounts will commence on 7th March 2026.

He extended sincere gratitude to President Museveni for his continued commitment to advancing the National Development Plan, particularly Strategic Objective Three on private sector growth for indigenous citizens in Alebtong.
