President Yoweri Museveni has urged all National Resistance Movement supporters to demand free education in government schools.

Addressing a campaign rally at Matany Town Council on Thursday 30th Oct, Museveni criticized the current school charges, saying they “destroy the future” of Ugandan children.

He emphasized the importance of practical and technical training, noting that young people trained for just six months have become productive, manufacturing goods that Uganda previously imported from China, Dubai, and Germany.

Museveni appealed to voters to continue supporting the NRM so that the party can “consolidate what has been achieved and do more.”

He commended the First Lady, Janet Museveni, for accepting the appointment as Minister for Karamoja, while noting that another unnamed minister had declined the position, calling it a “demotion.”

Museveni credited Janet’s leadership for improving Karamoja to the point where it once supplied food to Mbale.

On the construction of dams in Karamoja, Museveni said the initiative has been very successful but emphasized the need to move towards individualized water supply systems.

“Those things of going to the wells — I have already told the government how to work out the individualising of water, especially for production,” he said.

The President thanked the people of Napak for their support and urged them to continue backing the NRM party.

The rally marked the conclusion of Museveni’s campaign in Karamoja, following similar drives in the Lango, West Nile, and Acholi sub-regions.  The NRM presidential flag bearer is now expected to head to the Teso sub-region, beginning with Kapelebyong District.
